Dyspareunia: how to understand these pains during sexual relations?

Dyspareunia is a condition that is rarely discussed, but many women are affected by it. This disorder is characterized by pain and discomfort in the lower abdomen and vagina during sexual intercourse and penetration.

What causes dyspareunia?

As the EndoFrance website states, "dyspareunia is the result of lesions located near the vagina and at the recto-vaginal septum, but it can also be the result of the inflammation that accompanies superficial endometriosis located at the vaginal floor". A condition that is common in women with endometriosis, the leading cause of infertility in women.

While some women may experience simple discomfort, others may be unable to have sexual relations because the pain is so intolerable. Dyspareunia can also be caused by vaginal fungus, genital herpes or infection, ovarian cysts or condom allergy. As you can see, there can be many causes and it is important to consult a doctor to identify them.

Which treatment?

Depending on the cause of your dyspareunia, a specialist will prescribe a suitable treatment. In most cases, a treatment is prescribed that will soften and lubricate the vagina. One thing is certain: it is essential to consult a specialist.
